Boss is a movie full of entertainment, at least it was intended to be fun. It has failed in many ways to give audience something to laugh about, rather I would say it forces us to laugh on the silly dialogues. Lets discuss the movie in detail.
Direction, Screenplay & Story
Director Anthony D’Souza has given another flop to this industry after 2009’s written and directed Blue. He has tried to put some sequences from earlier Akki’s starrer’s like the back kick which is a real treat to the action lovers. The stunts too were a child’s play. At no point they seemed to real and fun. It doesn’t seem to be a great effort in bringing out the film and thus fails to make his point.
Talking about the screenplay and the story, the writers don’t seem to know what they are writing. The dialogues in particular are pathetic. The dialogues like ” Apne ko kya? Apne ko toh sirf pani nikalana hai” by Akashay and ” Maut ko toh yu hi log badnam karte hai, taklif toh zindagi deti hai” by Ronit Roy were repeated 4 and 3 times in an respectively and many more.
The core of the story was his brother gets imprisoned by a Corrupt cop and his father believing that his elder son(Boss) is a gunda asks for help. The story also contains unwanted characters like Ankita(Aditi Rao Hydari) and Trilok(Sanjay Mishra) which if eliminated would not affect the story much.
The music of the film is very weak and unorthodox and eccentric. The way the songs are shot isn’t very soothing. The one sung by Yo Yo Honey Singh is very energetic. A lot of energy is put in it but both Boss title song and Party All Night seem out of place.Hum Na Tode by Vishal Dadlani fits in very well and Pitah Se Hai Naam Tera by Sonu Nigam shows the love of Son to his father. At the end the they have given a good soundtrack Har kisi ko which puts the film to an end.
Akshay Kumar is fun in the lead. He has also shown his magic when it comes to action.
Mithun Chakraborty as the father of Boss and Shiv does good, but he is average in terms of acting.
Ronit Roy is a good actor. He has acted well in a serious role. He was very good in Udaan. Also he needs more screen space to share his talent.
Shiv Pandit does good. But any other actor of B-town would have done better than him.
Danny Denzongpa significantly better than the rest of the crew. It is always a delight to watch him on screen. He gives more meat to the character than it originally would have been.
Aditi Rao Hydari has no role to play in the movie other than coming out of the pool in a hot bikini. She doesn’t show much ‘acting’ factor as there was no room for her acting on screen. It was a sheer waste of her talent.
The Last Word
Anthony D’Souza’s Boss is full of action and pathetic dialogues. It has overall predictable story and stunts turned bad. This is a typical action comedy film and you will find it entertaining only if you are desi enough. But let me tell you, if you are looking for a good story, don’t watch Boss.
